Your day trip to Alexandria begins with a pickup from your hotel in Cairo by our representative. You will then be transferred to Alexandria, where you will visit some of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
First, you will visit Pompey’s Pillar, a towering obelisk that was built in honor of Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century AD. The pillar was originally part of the Temple of Serapis, which was one of the largest and most important temples in ancient Alexandria.
Next, you will drive to the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, which are the largest Roman catacombs in Egypt. These catacombs were built in the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD, and they contain a vast network of tunnels and chambers that are decorated with intricate hieroglyphs and paintings.
After lunch at a local restaurant, you will visit the Qaitbay Citadel, which was built on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria. This imposing fortress was built in the 15th century by Sultan Al-Ashraf Qaitbay, and it is one of the most important landmarks in Alexandria.
