Luxor is a city in Upper Egypt, located on the east bank of the Nile River. It is the capital of Luxor Governorate and is the second-largest city in Egypt after Cairo.
The ancient city of Thebes was located on the same site as modern Luxor. Thebes was the capital of the New Kingdom of Egypt and was home to some of the most important temples and monuments in the world, including the Karnak Temple Complex, the Luxor Temple, and the Valley of the Kings.
