itinerary

Start your day with a pickup from your hotel in Aswan by a knowledgeable Egyptologist guide. Embark on a fascinating journey to the Temple of Kalabsha, a beautiful Ptolemaic temple that was dismantled and relocated to its current location on a hill near the High Dam site in the 1960s to save it from being submerged by the rising waters of Lake Nasser.

The temple was originally built by Thutmose II and Amenhotep II in the 14th century BC and dedicated to the Nubian god Mandulis. The temple is decorated with reliefs depicting Mandulis and other Egyptian gods, as well as scenes of Nubian life.

After exploring the Temple of Kalabsha, continue to the Nubian Museum, which houses a vast collection of artifacts from ancient Nubia. The museum was founded in 1997 and takes its name from the ancient Egyptian word “nbu,” which means “gold,” in reference to the area’s famous gold mines.

The museum is divided into three main sections:

  • Prehistory: This section houses artifacts from the Stone Age through the Early Dynastic Period.
  • Old Kingdom: This section houses artifacts from the Old Kingdom, including statues, reliefs, and jewelry.
  • Middle Kingdom through Roman Period: This section houses artifacts from the Middle Kingdom through the Roman Period, including statues, reliefs, and pottery.

The museum also has a section dedicated to the rescue of Nubian monuments during the construction of the Aswan High Dam. This section houses artifacts that were moved from their original locations to save them from being submerged by the rising waters of Lake Nasser.
